Learning to Walk in the Dark

Zoom Book Study

led by Rev. Dr. Ginny Smith

Please consider joining Ginny Smith on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM, for the first of 7 sessions, as we begin exploring Learning to Walk in the Dark, a book by Episcopal priest, author, and college professor Barbara Brown Taylor.  Since we cannot meet in person, we will meet on Zoom, a platform that is accessible to anyone who has the internet on their computer, iPhone, or iPad.  The Seeking Wisdom Bible Study has been meeting on Zoom for 3 months and has found that its work well.

As we journey together through our current pandemic, we will follow the Reverend Taylor on her journey to understand darkness, which takes her spelunking in unlit caves, learning to eat and street as a blind person, discovering how “dark emotions” are prevented from seeing light from a psychiatrist, and rereading scripture to see all the times God shows up at night.  With her characteristic humor and wisdom, she will guide us through a spirituality of the nighttime, teaching us to find God even in the darkness, and giving us a way to let the darkness teach us what we need to know.

In order to participate, you will need to contact Ginny (her information is in the MFPC directory) and give her your email address.  A few days before each meeting she will send you an email invitation.  In the invitation will be a link that you will click on to connect you to the Zoom meeting on the date and time that is indicated.  You will also need to have a copy of the book.

For your own planning, other dates include July 7, July 21, August 4, August 18, September 1, and September 15.

Please let Ginny know ASAP if you want to be included.  Thank you!
